A new film society has been formed in Christchurch. Known as the Little Film Society, it will screen films in a miniature theatre in Armagh Street. The Society hopes to show films from all countries, and last evening its programme included a French film Olivia directed by Jacqueline Audry and made from a script written by her sister, the famous novelist Colette.

The Press, 20 May 1954, p10.

The name 'Little Film Society' is said to have been taken from the size of the venue, and on a poster outlining the history of the Society it is stated that Ngaio Marsh came up with the name.
